HYDROTHERAPY

We have an on-site heated indoor hydrotherapy pool that is kept at 31 degrees celsius. It is equipped with an exercise platform to allow you to perform standing exercises, and a chair lift for ease of access.

Hydrotherapy provides many of the conditioning and strength benefits of general exercise without the risk of joint impact injuries. Our therapists create customised pool therapy programs for rehabilitation, therapeutic maintenance, pregnancy, elite athletes, weight loss, pain relief, and cardiovascular training.

Before accessing our hydrotherapy pool it is part of our protocol for all patrons to attend an initial assessment with our physiotherapists or exercise physiologist to screen for safety and create an individualised hydrotherapy program for you. If you have attended another hydrotherapy pool elsewhere and have a current hydrotherapy program, you will need to have a program re-assessment created as our pool is deep water only, if this is the case please tell reception when making an appointment.

In addition to individual hydrotherapy programs, we also run aqua aerobics classes throughout the week. Please call (02) 4721 1222 to find out more details.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hydrotherapy

What is hydrotherapy and how does it help with pain and rehabilitation?

Hydrotherapy is exercise and rehabilitation performed in a warm water pool. The buoyancy of the water reduces the load on joints, making movement easier and less painful. The warmth relaxes muscles and soothes inflammation, while the resistance of water builds strength gently. It is particularly effective for arthritis, post-surgical recovery, chronic pain and conditions where land-based exercise is too painful or difficult.

Is hydrotherapy good for arthritis and joint pain?

Yes — hydrotherapy is one of the most effective treatments for arthritis. Warm water reduces joint pain and stiffness by relaxing surrounding muscles and improving circulation. The buoyancy of water means you can exercise without loading painful joints. At Everybody Physiotherapy, our heated pool is maintained at 32 degrees Celsius and our physiotherapists design programs specifically for arthritis management.

How is hydrotherapy different from swimming or aqua aerobics?

Hydrotherapy is a clinically supervised, therapeutic program designed and monitored by a physiotherapist or exercise physiologist. Unlike recreational swimming or aqua aerobics classes, each hydrotherapy program is individualised to your specific condition and rehabilitation goals. Every patient has an initial dry-land assessment before entering the pool, ensuring their program is safe and appropriate.

What conditions is hydrotherapy used to treat?

Hydrotherapy is used to treat osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, back pain, post-surgical rehabilitation (particularly joint replacements), neurological conditions, NDIS-related mobility goals, and injuries where weight-bearing exercise is not yet possible. It is also beneficial during pregnancy as a low-impact way to stay active and manage pelvic or back pain.

Do I need an assessment before starting hydrotherapy in Penrith?

No referral is needed, but all new patients must complete an initial assessment with one of our physiotherapists or exercise physiologists before entering the pool. This ensures your program is tailored to your condition and that the water environment is appropriate for you. Book by calling (02) 4721 1222.

What happens in a hydrotherapy session at Everybody Physiotherapy?

After your initial dry-land assessment, your physiotherapist designs a personalised pool program. Sessions take place in our onsite heated pool, maintained at 32 degrees Celsius and equipped with a chair lift for easy access. Your physiotherapist or exercise physiologist supervises and progresses your program as your strength and mobility improve.

Is hydrotherapy covered by private health insurance or NDIS?

Hydrotherapy can be claimed through most private health insurance funds under physiotherapy or exercise physiology extras cover. NDIS participants can also access hydrotherapy as part of their Capacity Building or Improved Daily Living supports where it aligns with plan goals. We recommend calling your insurer or NDIS planner to confirm your specific entitlements.

Why is Everybody Physiotherapy one of the best places for hydrotherapy in Penrith?

Everybody Physiotherapy has operated its hydrotherapy pool for over 20 years and is one of the only clinics in Western Sydney with a deep-water onsite pool. Our pool is heated to 32 degrees, equipped with a chair lift, and all programs are supervised by qualified physiotherapists and exercise physiologists with extensive experience in complex conditions including post-surgical rehab, arthritis and NDIS-funded therapy.
